LinkedIn makes its move on live audio events. Almost a year after Clubhouse began its decline.
LinkedIn’s 800 million-plus members will soon have access to a new Clubhouse-style audio platform.
The company announced that the number of virtual live events created on its platform has increased by 150 percent year over year, with attendees increasing by 231 percent.
According to the announcement:
“Starting this month, we’ll be beta testing this new interactive experience with Audio Events.
We’ll kick off with a few thousand creators who will host events across different topics and themes — any member can tune in and participate. We’ll expand the ability to host Audio Events to more creators in the coming months, and we’ll start rolling out our Video Events format later this (northern) spring.”
So what does it look like? Here are some screenshots that the team at LinkedIn provided.
The Clubhouse app started the whole live audio goldrush in 2019, and Twitter quickly followed earlier this year with its own clone called Spaces. Then came Facebook, Spotify, Discord, and others. None of them are showing stellar usage or growth, though.
By far the most convenient way to listen to one of these live audio sessions is probably through Twitter. The mobile app now features a bottom icon that will take you to any of the dozens of live Spaces now mostly hosted by the usual offenders: NFT Dudes, Bitcoin Bros and Social Media Marketing Queens. Thankfully Twitter is used by so few Aussies, that we won’t have to worry about subjecting our ears to all the rhetoric.
